The short answer
Choose Heidi if you want an ambient scribe that listens to the whole session, works offline on your phone, and carries NHS-facing credentials: UK hosting, Cyber Essentials, DTAC and a place on NHS England's ambient voice supplier list. It has a free plan; its Clinician plan is listed at US$110 a month billed annually.
Choose NoteSono if you would rather not record sessions, want therapy-specific formats and outcome measures, and want your clients, diary, invoices and CPD in the same place. Paid plans are £14.99 or £24.99 a month, with a free plan.
A scribe and a practice system are different tools
Heidi listens to a consultation and drafts the note as it goes. That is all it sets out to do, and it does it across many specialties. Its own feature list has no booking, reminders, invoicing, client forms or client records.
NoteSono is narrower on capture and wider on everything around the note. You give a short summary after the session, by voice, typing or a photo of handwritten notes, and it writes the note. The note then lives on a client record alongside treatment plans, outcome scores, safeguarding entries and, on Pro, sessions and invoices.

Where Heidi is better
- Nothing to remember afterwards. Heidi hears everything, so you are not relying on recall at the end of a long day.
- Capture that copes with bad signal. The mobile app can start and finish sessions offline and sync later.
- NHS and UK credentials. Heidi says it hosts UK data in the UK, holds Cyber Essentials, meets DTAC and is one of 19 suppliers on NHS England's ambient voice technology registry. NoteSono stores data in the EU and does not yet hold these.
- Languages. Heidi supports over 110 languages.
- A free plan with unlimited transcription.
Where NoteSono is better for talking therapists
No recording in the room
Ambient scribes need your client's informed consent to record, every time. Some clients decline, particularly where there is trauma, abuse or a fear of being overheard, and some therapists feel a recorder changes the session. NoteSono never hears the session. It works from what you choose to say afterwards.
Less to correct
A whole-session transcript gives an AI an hour of conversation to condense, including things you would not put in a note. Reviews of ambient scribes, Heidi included, report invented details that the clinician then has to catch. A two-minute summary from you contains only what you decided mattered.
The rest of the record
Heidi produces a note. You still need somewhere to keep it with the client's history, measures, plan and invoices. NoteSono is that place: a continuity brief before each session, outcome charts, a subject access request pack, a safeguarding log and, on Pro, the diary and billing.
Pounds, not dollars
Heidi's UK page does not show a sterling price. NoteSono is priced and billed in pounds.
Can you use both?
Yes, and some therapists do. If you want an ambient scribe for some sessions, you can paste Heidi's output into NoteSono as a typed summary and have it formatted into your chosen therapy format on the client record.
Recording and consent
Common questions
Is Heidi Health free?
Heidi has a free plan with unlimited transcription and standard templates. Its paid Clinician plan was listed at US$110 a month billed annually in October 2026, with no sterling price on the UK page.
Does Heidi record the session?
Heidi transcribes the consultation in real time. It says it does not store audio recordings of consultations, but the session is still being listened to, so you need the client's consent.
Does Heidi do booking or invoicing?
No. Heidi's published feature list covers scribing, evidence and team features, not scheduling, reminders, billing or client forms.
Is Heidi approved by the NHS?
Heidi is one of 19 suppliers listed on NHS England's ambient voice technology registry, published in January 2026, and says it meets DTAC. That is a supplier listing rather than an endorsement of any product.
Does NoteSono record sessions?
No. NoteSono works from a summary you give after the session, by voice, typing or a photo of handwritten notes. NoteSono transcribes voice summaries and does not keep the audio.
