Carepatron alternative for UK therapists

Carepatron gives away a lot on paper. Here is what its free plan actually covers for a working UK therapist, how it compares with NoteSono, and where Carepatron is the better choice.

    The short answer

Carepatron has the wider feature list: client portal, e-signatures, video calls, stored cards and a large template library, with a free plan. But its free plan is capped at 100 appointments in total and has no appointment reminders, and paid plans are US$31 or US$39 per user a month.

NoteSono does less, for UK therapists specifically: notes in 20 therapy formats from a short summary, CORE-10 alongside PHQ-9 and GAD-7, a subject access request pack, and pricing in pounds from £14.99 a month, with a free plan that has no time limit.

What Carepatron's free plan really includes

Carepatron's headline is a free plan with an AI scribe, telehealth and a client portal. That is true. Its pricing page's plan comparison, read on 16 October 2026, also shows these limits on Free:

    • 100 appointments in total, not per month. A therapist seeing 15 clients a week reaches that in under seven weeks.
    • No appointment reminders, by email or text.
    • No calendar sync.
    • 1 GB of storage and "Basic" AI models.

So for a working caseload, the realistic comparison is with Carepatron Plus at US$31 per user a month, or Advanced at US$39.

    Where Carepatron is better

    • Client-facing features. A portal, secure messaging, e-signed intake forms and document sharing.
    • Video calls with a waiting room, so you do not need Zoom.
    • Payments. Cards stored on the client profile, and deposits at booking on paid plans.
    • More measures. Auto-scored PCL-5, DASS-21, AUDIT, EPDS and others, plus a scoring builder.
    • Supervision. A supervisor co-sign workflow with an audit trail.
    • Certifications. Carepatron lists SOC 2 Type 2 and Cyber Essentials, and publishes a UK data processing addendum.

Where NoteSono is better for UK therapists

    Built around UK practice

CORE-10 is the outcome measure many UK counselling services use, and Carepatron does not list it. NoteSono's formats, safeguarding log, subject access request pack and BACP-style CPD tracking were designed for UK practice. Carepatron's billing is shaped around US insurance claims.

    Pounds, not dollars

Carepatron prices in US dollars and does not say whether VAT applies. NoteSono is priced in pounds.

    No recording needed

Carepatron's scribe listens to the session. NoteSono writes the note from your summary after the client has gone, so you never need to ask a client to be recorded.

    Getting your data out

Carepatron's bulk export includes client details and notes in Markdown, but not appointments or documents, which have to be downloaded one client at a time. NoteSono exports your notes as PDFs and your records as JSON in one ZIP, on every plan, including after you stop paying.

    Support from people

Carepatron's in-app help starts with an AI assistant; you type "talk to a person" to reach a human. At NoteSono you email us and a person in Greater Manchester replies.

    Which one should you choose?

    Carepatron suits you if

    • you want clients to sign forms, message you and pay through a portal
    • you run video sessions and want them in the same system
    • you use a wide range of US-origin measures
    • you run a team and need supervision co-signing

    NoteSono suits you if

    • you are a solo UK counsellor or psychotherapist
    • notes are the admin you want gone
    • you use CORE-10
    • you want to pay in pounds and keep things simple

    Before you move

Whichever you choose, export your data from your current system before you cancel. See our guide to subject access requests for what you must be able to produce for a client.

    Common questions

    Is Carepatron really free?

Carepatron has a permanent free plan, but as of October 2026 it is capped at 100 appointments in total, with no appointment reminders, no SMS and no calendar sync. Unlimited appointments start on Plus at US$31 per user a month.

    Where does Carepatron store data?

Carepatron's sub-processor list gives its AWS locations as the United States, Australia and Europe. It does not name the UK. Carepatron publishes a UK data processing addendum. NoteSono stores data in the EU.

    Does Carepatron have CORE-10?

CORE-10 is not among the auto-scored templates Carepatron lists. You could build it with its scoring builder. NoteSono includes CORE-10 ready to use.

    Does Carepatron integrate with Xero?

No native integration, according to Carepatron's help centre. It offers a CSV export of invoices and payments. NoteSono also exports income as CSV rather than syncing with Xero.

Is there a Carepatron app for iPhone in the UK?

Carepatron's help centre says its iOS app is US-only, so UK iPhone users add the web app to their home screen. NoteSono works the same way, as an installable web app.
