NoteSono vs Upheal: Which AI Notes Tool for UK Therapists?

    NoteSono··Updated

Upheal is one of the most feature-rich AI clinical notes platforms, known particularly for its session analytics, and it now sells UK plans in pounds. If you're a UK therapist weighing it against NoteSono, here's a comparison. We make NoteSono, so weigh our view accordingly.

This is based on publicly available information from both companies, checked in October 2026.

Where NoteSono may be the better fit

A free plan and lower paid prices

Both tools price their UK plans in pounds and both have a free plan. NoteSono's free plan gives you 5 notes a month with SOAP, DAP, BIRP and Intake. Paid plans are £14.99/month (Essentials) and £24.99/month (Pro), against Upheal's £29/month (AI Notes) and £69/month (EHR Pro). Upheal's higher tiers include more, such as built-in telehealth, so compare like with like.

    Clear answers on data

NoteSono is ICO registered and comes with a Data Processing Agreement written for UK GDPR. Your notes are stored in the EU. Some AI processing uses providers outside the UK and EU under data processing terms that exclude training on your data. Upheal states GDPR compliance and offers an EU/UK DPA too; its hosting region wasn't stated on the pages we reviewed, so ask.

    No session recording

Upheal can capture full session audio or video. NoteSono does not record your sessions: it works from a short summary you give after the session ends. For many UK therapists this is the deciding factor, because it removes the consent and storage questions that come with recording clinical sessions. You still need to tell clients that AI helps write their notes.

Where Upheal has genuinely more to offer

    Session analytics

This is Upheal's standout feature and something NoteSono doesn't attempt to offer. Because Upheal can capture live session audio, it can show speaking balance and silences (for English individual sessions), giving therapists insight into session dynamics they wouldn't otherwise see. If this kind of analytical layer matters to your practice, it's a genuine capability gap between the two tools, and it's only possible because Upheal records sessions.

    Flexible capture methods

Beyond dictated summaries, Upheal supports telehealth capture, in-person recording through its apps, and uploads. NoteSono is single-method by design — post-session summary only. If you want the flexibility to capture full sessions when it suits you, Upheal offers that option; NoteSono does not.

    Scale and broader feature set

Upheal has a longer track record, built-in telehealth, a treatment plan feature with "Golden Thread" linking, and a broad format library, including EMDR and psychiatric documentation. Its EHR Pro tier adds practice management.

    The honest summary

If you want a notes-first tool that doesn't record sessions, with a free plan and lower paid prices, NoteSono was built for that. If you want session recording, telehealth and session-level analytics, Upheal is a strong option with real capabilities NoteSono doesn't attempt to replicate.

The two tools are solving slightly different problems: Upheal is built around rich session capture and analytics; NoteSono is built around capturing less, by working from your summary.
